¡HOLA! Nice meeting you!

My name is Diana, pronounced the Spanish way: De-Anna. I'm an illustrator, writer and educator from Spain based in California. I’m a Pisces with curly hair, glasses and a bit of an accent.

I studied Art History and Illustration in Madrid. Now I make children’s books from my studio at home in San Francisco. I enjoy playing with different techniques, so most of my illustrations are mixed media.

When I’m not working on a book, I’m busy with other illustration projects (magazines, patterns, greeting cards…),  teaching workshops for kids and adults, and doing school visits.

Want to know more about me?

I enjoy going on long walks, dancing like nobody is watching, sharing meals with friends, reading books, spending time with kids, and visiting museums and bookstores everywhere I go.

I think little things are cute. Tea spoons? Adorable. Tiny turtle-shaped chopstick holders? Adorable too. Mosquitoes are the one exception to this rule.

It might be a Pisces thing, but I love water. I dream of having a swimming pool! Or a lake, or a hot tub, or a warm ocean… In a pinch, even a puddle will do.

I have lived in 7 cities and 3 continents, which is funny considering I lived in the same home in Madrid my entire childhood.

Now you can find me in San Francisco, sharing a centenary house with my husband and two fluffy creatures: a lazy cat and a crazy kitten. Being an immigrant is hard sometimes (I miss my family and friends), but I’m happy with the life I’ve built here.

When it comes to art supplies, I’m a total geek. I never leave an art store empty handed.

If you want to get my a present, here is an idea: I adore old photographs of smiling people. Were they happy? Were they in love? What’s their story? Oh, so many questions…

I speak Spanish, English, a bit of Italian and a few words in Arabic. Once upon a time I studied German but please, don’t ask me about that.

Representation

I’m represented by Teresa Kietlinski of Bookmark Literary for children’s books in the US, Canada and the UK.
