Try out this interesting exercise: take an image that you created, and find within it as many small compositions as you can. I'm not suggesting you cut up your final artwork (although I guess you could do that). If your image is on paper, you can use a viewfinder; and if you work digitally, you can use the cropping tool.
I have a Photoshop trick (it's an easy-peasy one, so you probably already know it):
- Open the file, find a composition you like, crop it, and save it in history by creating a new snapshot.
- Go back to the first snapshot (the original image), and start all over.
- By the end, you'll have a collection of "hidden stories" in your history tab. You can flip through them, decide which ones you love the most, and save them by creating a new document from current state.
- Remember NOT to save changes when you close the file.
